Elden Ring Nightreign Says Goodbye to Messaging System
FromSoftware’s new game, Elden Ring Nightreign, bids farewell to one of the series’ long-standing traditions. The player-to-player messaging system found in previous games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne will not be included in this new game. The game’s director, Junya Ishizaki, explained the reason for the removal of the system as adapting to Nightreign’s fast-paced and shorter game structure. While this change has caused different reactions in the gaming world, Nightreign’s innovative approach draws attention.
Why Was Messaging Removed in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Elden Ring Nightreign leaves behind the messaging system that was highly acclaimed in previous FromSoftware games. Hints, help messages or troll content that players can leave on the ground will no longer be present in this new game. Junya Ishizaki stated to IGN Japan that the game is based on short 40-minute combat cycles and that the messaging system can slow down the pace of the game for this reason.
Nightreign also stands out with its different structure. The three-player co-op mode, its structure that progresses over three different game days, and its uninterrupted action-oriented design determine the general tempo of the game. In addition, features such as the fact that enemies do not respawn near Ashes of Grace allow the game to offer a fast and uninterrupted flow.
Elden Ring Nightreign aims to offer a new experience while preserving some of FromSoftware’s iconic mechanics. Players will still be able to see the ghosts of other players and fight with two players in co-op mode. However, messages on the ground will be replaced by direct voice communication.
Elden Ring Nightreign aims to create nostalgia in long-standing fans of the series while also attracting new players with its fast-paced structure. Although the game’s farewell to the messaging system has caused controversy, it is eagerly awaited how this change will contribute to the general flow of the game. Nightreign stands out as one of the most different and innovative projects FromSoftware has done to date.
