Fake Switch 2 Images Anger Nintendo
While the eagerly awaited Switch 2 has not yet been officially released in the gaming world, fake images presented by an accessory company at the CES 2025 event have caused confusion. Nintendo has initiated legal proceedings against the company on the grounds that its trademark rights were used without permission and has drawn attention to the misperception that has developed in the public.
Nintendo Takes Action for Misleading Promotion
Fake designs claimed to belong to the Switch 2 caused a wide repercussion at this year’s CES event. The company, which exhibited 3D printed models, accessory samples and promotional videos at the fair, claimed to offer content based on the real model, although no official statement was made about the device. These presentations quickly gained attention, but they also brought a reaction from Nintendo.
The lawsuit filed by Nintendo alleges that the brand name was used without permission and that misleading marketing was being conducted. In particular, the use of terms such as “Switch” and “Joy-Con” on fake devices led consumers to believe that these products were affiliated with Nintendo. The company stated that this situation also put its own reputation at risk and created confusion among users.
The company in question continued to promote products before the official announcement. It held a similarly structured event just one day before Nintendo’s presentation, announcing its new accessories and opening them for pre-order. The use of the phrase “compatible with Switch 2” in this presentation became one of the most serious allegations in the case. Nintendo, on the other hand, argues that such compatibility could only be possible with technical information obtained from insiders.
Nintendo is requesting the court to stop the company’s promotional activities, destroy all content used without permission, return the profits earned, and cover legal expenses. It is also requesting a permanent restraining order to prevent similar incidents from happening again. If the parties cannot reach an agreement, the case will continue with a jury trial.
