Frankenstein Trailer Coming This Weekend

Del Toro’s Frankenstein project for Netflix has been quiet for a while. Despite the content limited to only short images and promotional frames, fans have been eagerly waiting for the first trailer. Finally, the director confirmed on social media that the trailer will be released on Saturday, May 31.

Frankenstein Trailer to be Unveiled at Netflix’s Tudum Event

According to Del Toro’s statement, the trailer will meet the audience at Netflix’s annual Tudum event. A short trailer previously shown exclusively to the press featured a short scene about Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein character. The new trailer is expected to reveal Frankenstein’s monster, played by Jacob Elordi, in more detail.

Previous testimonies about the trailer reported that Elordi would appear with long black hair, gray and stitched skin, and a slight red glow in his eyes. While the character design maintains classic lines, Elordi’s familiar facial features are strikingly matched with makeup. The trailer also features Mia Goth’s Elizabeth; it is a matter of curiosity whether this character will transform into the Bride of the Monster as the story progresses.

Guillermo del Toro emphasized in his statement at the Cannes Film Festival that this film is not a classic horror story. He stated that emotional themes such as father-son relationships, humanity and rejection will be at the forefront in the film. Del Toro said that he has wanted to do the project for 50 years, but only now has he reached the necessary maturity and courage.

The film’s cast includes names such as Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer. Netflix production Frankenstein stands out as a production that should be followed closely by those interested in both gothic classics and Del Toro’s unique narrative style.
