Gary Oldman Wanted the Role of Dumbledore
Gary Oldman, the unforgettable Sirius Black of the Harry Potter world, has proven once again that he is always open to returning to the wizarding world. The famous actor said that he was interested in the role of Albus Dumbledore in the new Harry Potter series prepared by HBO, but he thought his chances were low due to his past role. Opportunity Missed for Dumbledore
Speaking to Variety, Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman stated that portraying the character of Dumbledore would be very special for him. “I would love to play Dumbledore, I am the right age now,” Oldman said, adding that the possibility of this was weak due to his role as Sirius Black in the old films. Emphasizing that the new series will be faithful to the source material, the actor expressed that he is excitedly waiting for the retelling of the series.
In HBO’s new Harry Potter series, Albus Dumbledore will be played by famous American actor John Lithgow. This choice has drawn criticism from some fans because an American actor was given a British character. However, HBO assures that they will preserve the depth of the character.
On the other hand, Ralph Fiennes, who is remembered for his role as Lord Voldemort, also gave humorous advice to the new cast. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Fiennes emphasized the importance of being able to handle long capes and shared colorful details from his set memories.
Young actors Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will take on the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione. The series will also include names such as Paapa Essiedu (Snape), Janet McTeer (McGonagall), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Luke Thallon (Quirrell) and Paul Whitehouse (Filch).
HBO’s new adaptation, planned for seven seasons, will focus on one book each season, with J.K. It aims to stay true to Rowling’s original stories. Although the exact release date for the series has not yet been announced, fans are eagerly awaiting a more detailed journey into the wizarding world.
