Genshin Impact Team Working on New MMO

Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has begun work on a new open-world MMO project called “Genesis.” According to a short trailer posted on Chinese social media, the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and will feature AI-powered gameplay systems. The project, which is reportedly still in its early stages, aims to offer a larger-scale online experience, unlike the studio’s anime-style games.

The trailer, spotted by ResetEra users, was shared by miHoYo’s recruiting team on the Chinese platform Xiaohongshu. The video confirms that the new game, codenamed “Genesis,” is an open-world fantasy MMO. The development on Unreal Engine 5 represents a more ambitious technical leap for miHoYo, moving away from the Unity engine. The game will prioritize online competition with PvP systems and expansive exploration areas.

The project’s AI-powered features are also attracting attention. Translations include terms like “AI-Based Ecosystem,” “All-Terrain Combat AI,” and “Intelligent NPCs.” These terms suggest the game will feature a dynamic world and that the characters players interact with will have their own behavioral algorithms. However, it’s important to remember that this information is a translation issue; therefore, details are awaited for official confirmation from miHoYo.

Genesis will be miHoYo’s first major project using Unreal Engine 5 after Genshin Impact. The company’s previous games—Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, and Honkai Impact 3—were Unity-based. This change is considered a key step toward revamping the company’s technical infrastructure and elevating visual quality. The new engine is said to deliver more realistic environmental interactions and combat systems.

Genshin Impact is also marking a significant turning point. The game has been removed from the PlayStation 4 store, and support for the platform will end in 2026. HoYoverse was also in the news earlier this year with a $20 million fine for selling content aimed at young players.
