Genshin Impact Will No Longer Be Playable on PS4
Genshin Impact, one of the most popular open-world games of recent years, will soon be a thing of the past for PlayStation 4 users. After five years of immense popularity, the game is being withdrawn from the platform due to its unsustainability on older-generation hardware. The decision has been met with surprise by many players.
Genshin Impact Bids Farewell to PS4
According to a statement released by developer HoYoverse, the PS4 version of Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10, 2025. After this date, even those who previously owned the game will be unable to download it again. The game’s complete shutdown date for PS4 has been announced as April 8, 2026. In-app purchases will also be disabled on February 25, 2026.
The PS5 version of Genshin Impact will continue its journey smoothly. The development team has made it clear that updates and content support will continue on PS5 and other supported platforms. Players will be able to continue their adventures by transferring their existing progress to supported devices.
The statement emphasized that technical factors such as the PS4’s hardware limitations and application size influenced this decision. It was also stated that this decision wasn’t made lightly for the game, which has been available on PS4 for over five years, but that it was no longer sustainable. The open-world structure and frequent updates were beginning to seriously strain the PS4 system.
Genshin Impact’s withdrawal from PS4 once again demonstrates the accelerating transition to the next-gen era in gaming. With games like Battlefield 6 and GTA 6 leaving the previous generation behind, the PS4 era is officially beginning to come to an end. It may be time for players to upgrade to a new console.
