George R.R. Martin has finally returned to his personal blog, which he hadn’t updated since February. In his post titled “Better Late Than Never,” the author speaks of both the difficult times he has experienced and the positive developments that have brought him happiness, this time using a very open and emotional tone. Although the message is short, it somewhat explains the reason for his long-awaited silence.

Martin said that 2026 was an extremely tiring year for him. He described experiencing positive developments where his dreams came true, but also struggling with serious losses and difficulties. He mentioned losing friends and grappling with sadness and depression, and didn’t hide his concern that the coming period might be even more challenging.
Martin, who turned 77 last September, candidly acknowledged that aging is far from easy. However, he also reminded everyone that amidst all the weight, there are beautiful moments. Frankly, the most striking aspect of the message was that an author who has built vast fantasy worlds for years spoke so simply about the ups and downs of his own life.
The author said he will try to post more frequently on his blog from now on, but warned fans that the posts might be short and rushed. Stating that his team will help him, Martin plans to return to accumulated topics over time. While this statement shows he hasn’t completely disappeared, it suggests he will prefer a more relaxed pace.
At the end of the message, he celebrated A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms receiving nine Emmy nominations. He also added that he was saddened by the lack of individual nominations for the actors.
