God of War: Sons of Sparta Made a Surprise Release
God of War: Sons of Sparta made its debut at the State of Play event and, in an unexpected move, was instantly made available. The long-rumored 2.5D metroidvania-style project focuses on Kratos’ origin story. A return to the era of Greek mythology, the game blends nostalgia with modern design.
What Does God of War: Sons of Sparta Offer?
The game sheds light on Kratos’ life before he became a god. Beginning as a Spartan warrior, his journey tells a harsh origin story, both personal and mythological. The short gameplay clips seen in the trailer show that it retains the classic God of War fury with fast-paced melee scenes and large boss battles.
The 2.5D architecture adds a Metroidvania touch to the exploration and progression system. Locked areas on the map are unlocked with newly acquired abilities, encouraging players to return to the game. The hand-drawn pixel animation style gives the game a unique visual identity and reinforces the classic era feel.
Just before the announcement, it was revealed that God of War Trilogy Remake was in development, but that project has been on hold for a long time. Sons of Sparta, however, filled this gap by being released immediately. Available in Standard and Deluxe editions, the game is priced at $29.99. The price in Turkey is 1299 TL.
