Hideo Kojima Will Keep Making Games Even After He Dies
Hideo Kojima, who has been talked about in the gaming world for years, is once again on the agenda with his statement before Death Stranding 2. Kojima, who said that he realized he was getting old, announced that he took a rather unusual measure to ensure that his studio could continue its productivity even after his death.
Hideo Kojima’s Will with a USB
Kojima stated in an interview with Edge magazine that his perspective on life changed after the health problems he experienced. Kojima, who said that he suffered a serious illness during the COVID-19 period and lost many of his relatives during this process, said, “I faced death. Now I started thinking about how much time I have left. Maybe I have 10 years left.”
With this awareness, he announced that he had prepared a special plan so that the production process would not stop after his death. Kojima has handed over a USB memory stick containing his future game ideas to his personal assistant. This memory stick will be opened when he passes away and Kojima Productions will continue to produce new projects in line with his ideas.
Kojima also emphasized that he did not want to only manage existing brands with this decision, and said, “Kojima Productions should not be content with just managing the IPs we have. It should continue to produce new things.” This statement also shows that the studio attaches importance to sustainability without tying its vision to just one creator.
Kojima gained great fame with the Metal Gear series after entering the industry in the mid-1980s. He left Konami in 2015 to establish his own independent studio and has continued to sign extraordinary projects in both technical and thematic terms since then. This new step once again reveals how visionary he is not only about the present but also the future.
