Images of the Cancelled Everwild Released
Everwild, unveiled in 2019, was poised to be one of the most ambitious projects from Rare, a studio under the Xbox umbrella. The game, notable for its forest-themed multiplayer gameplay, had been quiet for a long time. However, following Microsoft’s internal layoffs, the project was completely canceled. Now, several screenshots purportedly from Everwild’s development process have leaked online.
Everwild Images Show the Game is in a Progressive Stage
Several screenshots and user interface (UI) designs from Everwild’s gameplay have surfaced online. These images include character models, menu designs, and scenes from nature-themed environments. One screenshot, in particular, shows the player interacting with a gardening-like system. While these images have not yet been confirmed, the concept appears to be quite consistent with the initial teaser trailer.
Everwild was described as “playable” before its cancellation. However, it remains unknown at what point the project was halted or how much of it had been completed. The images showcase Rare’s artistic style and the captivating atmosphere it sought to create. Environmental details and character animations, in particular, demonstrate that the game had made significant progress visually.
Following the cancellation, Rare has focused solely on ongoing projects like Sea of Thieves. It’s unknown whether the studio is working on a new IP, but rumors circulate that the Banjo-Kazooie series will return. These rumors align with Microsoft’s strategy of revitalizing its classic franchises.
The cancellation of Everwild was a major disappointment for many gamers. Aside from Sea of Thieves, Rare had developed almost no new franchises since the early 2000s. These newly released images serve as a reminder of the game’s immense potential. Sadly, Everwild will now be relegated to the dustbin of history — but at least now we can see what kind of game it could have been.
