Jak 3 Begins a Brand New Life on PC

As part of the project developed by the OpenGOAL team, Jak 3 has been made playable on PC with a beta version. Thus, the first three games in the series can now be played without the need for an emulator. However, for this system to work legally, players must own an original copy of the game; the project only provides the technical infrastructure.

While the project’s primary goal was to analyze and better understand the game engine developed by Naughty Dog years ago, the biggest advantage that emerged was mod support. Although the developers described this as a secondary goal, it opened a much more important door for the community. Because now players can not only experience the game but also reshape it.

Indeed, the first mods for Jak 3 have already appeared. A mod developed just hours after its release completely overhauls the game’s user interface, making it high-resolution. The previously pixelated HUD elements have been redesigned to suit modern screens and provide visual consistency consistent with other games in the series.

It is expected that these mods will become much more comprehensive in the coming period. Improvements are expected in many areas, from character models and environmental designs to lighting and effects.
