Johnny Depp and Margot Robbie May Star in a Pirates of the Caribbean Reboot

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, one of Disney’s most successful live-action series, has been shrouded in uncertainty for a long time. Following the five-film series, plans for a new film were put on hold due to both criticism and ongoing legal battles. However, recent claims suggest that the Pirates of the Caribbean universe will be reshaped, and familiar faces may return.

New Roadmap for Pirates of the Caribbean Reboot Plan

According to recent rumors, instead of completely rebooting the series, Disney is focusing on a “passing-the-torch” model. The claims suggest that the new film could refocus on Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, but with Margot Robbie’s mysterious character at the center of the story. In this scenario, Jack Sparrow might have a more supporting role, and the story could be passed on to a new generation.

During the writing process, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, one of the screenwriters of the 1917 film, is being mentioned. It’s being discussed that the story could revolve around Jack Sparrow’s son and offer a new adventure connected to Robbie’s character. Such an approach is seen as an attempt to create a structure that both appeals to nostalgia and refreshes the series.

Johnny Depp’s return is still not official. Following his legal battle with Amber Heard, Disney was known to be keeping its distance. However, Depp’s recent involvement in projects has led to speculation that the door to Pirates of the Caribbean isn’t completely closed. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s recent statements that they are close to “some” of the rumors have also increased expectations.

The Pirates of the Caribbean series has grossed billions of dollars worldwide to date. Therefore, Disney wasn’t expected to completely abandon the brand.
