Kyle Crane Comments from Dying Light Team
Kyle Crane, the legendary character from the Dying Light series, is set to return to the game after a long hiatus in Dying Light: The Beast. In a statement ahead of the new game, Techland shared how Crane was redesigned and the ideas that shaped him. The character we met as the hero in the first game returns this time with a much darker, scarred appearance, bearing the scars of experimentation.
Kyle Crane Remastered for Dying Light: The Beast
Techland emphasized that they didn’t want Kyle Crane to return with an aged appearance. The team felt that gray hair or a crumbling appearance would alienate the character, so they chose instead to emphasize the scars of years of torture and experimentation. This way, the lines on Crane’s face, the scars on his body, and the changes in his musculature are a natural reflection of his ordeal.
Crane’s design process paid meticulous attention to detail. The Techland art team explained that every scar and mark on his body wasn’t placed haphazardly, but rather carefully considered the potential legacy of past experiments. From the hue of his eyes to his vein structure, countless small details were designed to reflect Crane’s duality between man and beast.
This new character isn’t just a visual change. Throughout Dying Light: The Beast, Crane will grapple with his wild side as the story progresses and, over time, begin to re-remember traces of his former self. This process will be shaped by both player decisions and the narrative, making Crane’s fate even more dramatic and personal.
Voiced by Roger Craig Smith, Kyle Crane is positioned in the new game not only as a figure of survival but also as a symbol of profound transformation. Fans of the series will experience both Crane’s painful past and his rebirth. This makes Dying Light: The Beast not just a sequel, but also a gateway to the character’s deepest story.
