Lost Soul Aside Draws Backlash for Its High Price
Lost Soul Aside, in development for over a decade, is finally set to launch on August 29th for PlayStation 5 and PC. What began as a personal project by a China-based independent developer has become one of the notable titles supported by Sony as part of its China Hero Project. However, this long-awaited release, rather than exciting players, has become a source of controversy due to its price. The balance between the game’s quality and price has already begun to be questioned by many.
Lost Soul Aside Is Considered “AA” by Players
Lost Soul Aside has been in the news for both its development process and its pricing. According to director Yang Bing, the game is positioned within the studio as an “AA” game, meaning a mid-budget title. Despite this, its $59.99 release price seems steep to many gamers. While Lost Soul Aside carries a price tag similar to modern AAA games, its content and quality raise questions about whether it will be worth the price.
Content creators who have previously experienced the game have shared negative comments about key elements, particularly animation quality and combat mechanics. Some users have stated that the production sometimes feels “cheap,” arguing that it’s a mistake to sell such a game at full price. It remains to be seen how the developer will respond to these criticisms.
While Chinese players are showing interest in the game, it remains unclear whether this enthusiasm will translate into sales success. While the game’s promotional videos and story elements are noteworthy, the price has discouraged some players from pre-ordering. Price discussions are particularly prevalent in the Steam and PlayStation communities.
Studio director Yang Bing stated that if sales fall short of expectations, steps such as a price reduction may be considered. Lost Soul Aside’s success appears to depend largely on player feedback and its first-week sales performance.
