Marathon Dire Marsh Map Became a Nightmare for Players
Following extensive pre-release testing, some striking statistics have emerged from Marathon. Bungie shared figures on server slam in a short video on social media. The statistics, particularly for the Dire Marsh map, reveal that the game offers a harsher experience than anticipated.
Surviving in Marathon’s Dire Marsh Map is Difficult
During testing, most players first gained experience on the Perimeter map, which served more as an entry-level preparation area. However, things changed drastically when they moved to Dire Marsh. According to the data, the survival rate on this map was only 35.6%. In other words, two out of every three players who entered Dire Marsh did not return.
This table shows that despite Marathon’s accessible nature, it’s not an easy extraction shooter. The arcade-like weapon handling and powerful class abilities might initially give the impression of a more relaxed experience. However, Dire Marsh, with its simultaneous PvP and PvE pressure, presents players with a serious test.
Other shared statistics are also noteworthy. During the testing period, over 9 million Runners were neutralized by other players. In the same period, over 129 million UESC enemies were eliminated. The fact that hundreds of thousands of “drinkable cheeseburgers” were retrieved from raids is another interesting detail reflecting the game’s humorous tone.
Marathon will be released in full on March 5th. The fact that Dire Marsh will receive a night mode in its second season suggests that the difficulty level may increase even further. It seems Bungie is inviting players to a test of endurance rather than an easy start.
