Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Difficulty Details
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater difficulty will depend on how players choose to position the camera in the upcoming remake. According to developers, fans will have the choice of playing through the iconic Metal Gear experience in the game’s original fixed perspective or a new third person view, both of which will come with their own difficulties, theoretically helping to make the classic game’s debut on next gen hardware go more smoothly.

The announcement of a current-gen remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 last year came as quite a surprise, with Konami revealing the upcoming title during a PlayStation State of Play livestream. Excitement could immediately be felt within the Metal Gear community, with more recent entries in the series, like 2018’s Metal Gear Survive, leaving some disappointed. This title felt especially lackluster for fans, considering it followed the critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which was released three years prior in 2015. Konami revealed more information about Snake Eater during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, with pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater now open to all. As anticipation builds, the Metal Gear team has revealed how Snake Eater will handle difficulty, opting to use a unique new system.
In an interview with Famitsu (translated by VGC), Yuji Korekado, creative producer for the acclaimed Metal Gear series, said, “We had originally planned to make it possible to switch between the two viewpoints at any time during gameplay, but we decided against it.” Korekado explained that the reason for making this change came down to Snake Eater’s difficulty settings, which change and adapt based on the perspective players use. “The difficulty level changes drastically depending on the viewpoint. The ‘New Style’ has a wider, more linear field of view, and you can shoot your gun while moving, so the difficulty level was lower than we had expected,” he said.
“However, if we adjusted it to match the ‘New Style’, the ‘Legacy Style’ would become too difficult, so we decided to split the play style in two. The ‘Legacy Style’ is close to the difficulty level of the original version, and we are adjusting the ‘New Style’ from scratch,” Korekado continued. The new perspective for Snake Eater makes the game feel and play like The Phantom Pain, which was a more traditional third-person experience rather than the zoomed-out look found in the original Metal Gear Solid 3. While packing a considerable new punch in terms of both sound and visual fidelity, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater seems to maintain what made the original 2004 game so popular amongst fans, with the game’s first trailer teasing a variety of classic weapons and combat encounters.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date didn’t announced yet but considering Silent Hill 2 Remake will make it’s launch a week later, we can expect to see release date soon. Special versions and editions of Snake Eater were revealed earlier this summer, including a hefty Collector’s Edition. This edition includes the base Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a FOX Unit patch, a miniature terrarium based on the iconic opening scene of Virtuous Mission, and several other trinkets and goodies for fans of the franchise.
