The Legend of Lara Croft Trailer Released
The story of The Legend of Lara Croft follows Lara Croft as she leaves her friends behind and embarks on solo adventures after the events of the Survivor series. However, a dangerous Chinese artifact stolen from Croft Manor forces Lara to return home. The theft leads her on a globe-trotting adventure and into the depths of forgotten tombs to discover her true self. Here’s the official description of the series: “Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly dangerous solo adventures. But when a powerful Chinese artifact is stolen, she is forced to embark on a dangerous quest.”
Lara’s character development and the depth of the story make this animated series not only an action-packed adventure, but also a character’s inner journey. Lara will not only explore the tombs, but also decide “what kind of heroine she wants to be”.
In addition to Lara Croft, voiced by Hayley Atwell, the character of Zip is played by Allen Maldonado, while Earl Baylon, who played Jonah in the Tomb Raider game series, reprises his role. Apart from the voice cast, the show’s creative team is also noteworthy. Tasha Huo is the showrunner and head writer, while the production team includes Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson, Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes, Howard Bliss, Jen Chambers and Brad Graeber. The series is produced by Legendary Television, Crystal Dynamics, Powerhouse Animation, dj2 Entertainment and Tractor Pants.
The Tomb Raider universe was first developed by Core Design for the Sega Saturn in 1996 and has since made a huge impact worldwide. By 2024, the Tomb Raider series will have spawned 20 different games. The game series has also been adapted into feature films starring both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, reaching a huge worldwide audience. Alongside Netflix’s animated series, a live-action series developed by Amazon and a new video game based on the IP are also on the way.
Following the success of HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon’s Fallout, the popularity of series based on video games is growing rapidly, and Tomb Raider is set to be an important part of this trend.
