New Witcher 3 Mod Restores Cut Content
Thanks to REDkit, CD Projekt Red’s official modding tools for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, content that wasn’t included in the original version of the game is being brought back into the game through mods. The new Witcher 3 mod expands the sailing experience for players by offering more interaction and fun on the waters of the Skellige. This mode brings back one of the game’s cut content – boat races – and offers the opportunity to compete on different waterways.
New Witcher 3 Mode Brings Back Cut Content: Boat Races
This mod, called Boat Races, was created by MerseyRockoff and currently allows players to participate in four different boat races held in Novigrad, Oxenfurt, Kaer Trolde and Holmstein. Each race can be started on the respective city’s bulletin board, similar to horse races. While the notice boards will be used for initial participation, players can later start the races by directly visiting the locations where these races are taking place.
“This mod brings back the idea of CDPR’s original Boat Races. These were planned during the game’s development, but were removed from the final release. With the release of REDkit, 100% of the boat racing scenario was found in the game files, allowing the restoration process to begin. Only the text and sound files were found, the rest was created from scratch based on CDPR’s writings and a careful review of the files. This means that all of the conversations, characters, notifications and journal entries in the mod were originally written by CDPR, but were recreated and brought to life by me using REDkit,” he explained.
The mod is currently available on Nexus Mods and has been translated into 17 different languages, but the voices are only available in English. Future updates to the mod aim to add randomized routes and repeatable races for each race.
