No Man’s Sky Finally Reaches the Very Favorable Threshold
When No Man’s Sky was released in August 2016, player reactions were so negative that it quickly received a “Highly Negative” rating on Steam. It took two years and many significant updates for the game’s average score to reach “Mixed”. In 2021, the game reached the “Mostly Positive” level in the all-time user review average.
No Man’s Sky reaching a “Very Positive” rating is a great achievement
Now, three years and 35 free content updates later, No Man’s Sky has done the impossible and turned its initial “Extremely Negative” rating into a “Very Positive” one. This means that 80% of the 245,857 Steam reviews are positive. Studio boss Sean Murray posted on social media platform X: “Guys, it happened. ALL REVIEWS: Very Positive. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea what this means to us,” he wrote.
No Man’s Sky’s next goal will be to reach the prestigious “Highly Positive” category, where games like Sekiro, Persona 5, Baldur’s Gate 3, Stardew Valley, Hades, etc. are. However, this is a much more difficult goal as it requires 95% of lifetime reviews to be positive.
Still, moving up to “Very Positive” is an incredible achievement and a testament to the work Hello Games has put into the space sim over the last eight years. The latest update came out this month and brought cross-save support, PlayStation 5 Pro improvements and the return of Mass Effect’s Normandy. This is the sixth major update of the year.
Despite a rocky start, No Man’s Sky has earned back its reputation for perseverance and has been well received by players. With updates and improvements to come, the journey of this space adventure is far from over.
