NVIDIA RTX 5080 and 5090 Sold Out Everywhere

NVIDIA launched its new flagship graphics cards, the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, last week. However, these powerful cards sold out in both physical and online stores within minutes of their release. NVIDIA’s limited stock launch has caused disappointment among gamers and technology enthusiasts.

Why Is There So Much Interest in the NVIDIA RTX 50 Series?

NVIDIA’s GeForce community manager Tim Adams said before the launch that they expected demand for these cards to be very high and warned users that they could run out quickly. As expected, major retailers such as Amazon, Micro Center, Best Buy and Newegg sold out of stock in minutes.

Some US PC builders reportedly only had a few cards on launch day. For example, one system integrator had a single RTX 5090 card, while another sold out of 20 in three minutes. It remains unclear when stock will be restocked, with some retailers reporting it could take weeks or even months.

The RTX 5080 and 5090 feature NVIDIA’s latest technologies and offer high performance for modern games. Advances in ray tracing and DLSS technology in particular make these cards attractive to gamers. However, NVIDIA’s stock shortages and limited production capacity make it difficult for users to access these new-generation graphics cards.

According to Steam’s January 2025 hardware survey, most gamers are still using older cards like the RTX 3060. While new games are recommending the 40-series cards, many of those looking to upgrade to the RTX 50-series will have to wait due to stock shortages.

It’s not clear when NVIDIA will restock the RTX 5080 and 5090. Some retailers are predicting that the RTX 5080 could be back in stock in two to six weeks, while the RTX 5090 could be back in stock in three to 16 weeks. However, no specific date has been given, so users may have to wait a while longer to get their hands on these cards. It’s expected that NVIDIA will learn from this and increase its production capacity. For now, though, those planning to get their hands on the RTX 50 series will need to be patient.
