Obsidian Pulls Games Due to Unity Crisis
Obsidian Entertainment, a company known for its unforgettable RPG titles, has made an unexpected move. The company temporarily removed several of its games from the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, and Steam due to a security vulnerability discovered in the Unity game engine. This move surprised both fans and sparked curiosity about when the games would return.
Obsidian Games Removed from Stores Due to Unity Vulnerability
Obsidian’s official statement stated that a security vulnerability was discovered in the Unity engine. While details were not shared, it emphasized the potential risk to players. Therefore, the studio temporarily withdrew its games until security was ensured.
Notable titles on the list include Grounded 2 Founders Edition, Avowed Premium Edition, and various editions of the Pillars of Eternity series. The Ultimate Pack for Deadfire, the sequel, and Pentiment, which quickly gained a fan base, are also among the games removed. Pentiment’s development entirely in Unity has led to the game being completely unavailable.
While Avowed is based on Unreal Engine, the game’s accompanying artbook was created in Unity, so this content was temporarily removed. The studio clearly refuses to take risks, even with such details. This approach demonstrates their commitment to user safety above all else.
For now, players only have to wait patiently. Obsidian has announced that the games will return safely once patches are ready. However, it’s unclear how long this process will take. While this may be an unpleasant development for gamers, this action appears to be the right step to maintain trust in the long term.
