Onimusha: Way of the Sword May Be Released Earlier Than Expected
Onimusha: Way of the Sword may be trying to carve out a more comfortable space for itself in the busy 2026 gaming calendar. The recent shift of many major titles towards September releases, especially with GTA 6’s November launch, has significantly compressed the schedule. Now, newly surfaced store listings suggest Capcom may be planning to release the new Onimusha game a few weeks earlier than expected.
September 4th Date Appears for Onimusha
According to information noticed by Cheap Ass Gamer, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is listed with a new release date in the systems of some retailers. PNP Games, Best Buy, and some other store listings show the game’s release date as September 4th instead of September 25th. However, there has been no official statement confirming this change from Capcom or the official Onimusha accounts.
If the date is correct, this move seems quite logical. Because while September 2026 is exciting for gamers, it has become a seriously competitive arena for publishers. The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming out at the very beginning of the month, followed by Marvel’s Wolverine on September 15th.
The end of the month is even more crowded. Control: Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall are releasing on September 24th. Onimusha’s previous release date of September 25th coincided with these two major releases. Therefore, moving the game to September 4th could allow Capcom to have a stronger launch without distractions.
However, this information is currently based on store listings. Release dates can sometimes be accidentally updated or entered into systems early before an official announcement. It’s necessary to be cautious until an official statement from Capcom. But if the September 4th date turns out to be correct, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will have a chance to be released before the September crowds hit.
