PSN Account Requirement for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
Sony has announced that a PlayStation Network (PSN) account is required for the PC version of Naughty Dog’s popular game The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. This requirement is officially stated on the game’s Steam page. However, the fact that PSN is only available in 73 countries may prevent many players from accessing the game. PSN support is not available in regions such as the Baltic countries and most of Africa, which creates a significant disadvantage for gamers.
PSN Requirement and Player Reaction
The PSN account requirement has been the focus of criticism, especially in single-player games. The same requirement was previously applied to games such as God of War Ragnarök, which led to negative user reviews on Steam. Players are forced to create fake accounts in order to access the game in countries without a PSN account. However, the possibility of Sony banning these accounts is causing concern among players.
Sony says this requirement is necessary to increase player safety and protect community values. The company argues that PSN connectivity makes it easier to monitor player behavior and prevent malicious activity. It also emphasizes that this system is critical for banned players to appeal their accounts. However, these statements fail to change the negative perception among players.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be released on Steam in 2024. However, it is expected to face criticism at launch, as it has with previous Sony games, due to the PSN requirement. Players continue to call for Sony to review this policy.
