Remedy’s Co-op FPS Game FBC: Firebreak Announced

Remedy Entertainment has officially announced its new game, FBC: Firebreak, set in the Control universe. Designed as a three-player co-op FPS, the game tells the story of the Federal Bureau of Control’s (FBC) first responder team’s struggle to control a paranatural threat. This game, which Remedy will self-publish for the first time, also draws attention with its time coinciding with the studio’s 30th anniversary. FBC: Firebreak will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 platforms in the summer. It will also be accessible to PC Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Game Catalog members on day one.

FBC: Firebreak Gameplay Details

FBC: Firebreak offers a mission-based PvE experience. Replayable missions called “Jobs” in the game expect cooperation and strategy from players with different challenges and environments. The “Paper Chase” mission shown in the introduction trailer is about a seemingly harmless sticky note crisis turning into a paranatural disaster. Players have to fight a massive anomaly by crossing three different regions.

Players can choose their playstyle by selecting their equipment, called a “Crisis Kit,” before a mission. Options include Jump Kit, which focuses on electrical-based abilities, Fix Kit, which deals heavy damage, and Splash Kit, which provides team support with water manipulation. The ability to change your equipment during a mission provides flexibility in the game.

It was announced that FBC: Firebreak will be expanded with post-launch content updates. New missions and content will be available for free. Players will only be able to purchase cosmetic items, but these items will not affect gameplay mechanics.

The game takes place in Control’s central building, the “Oldest House.” The building, which was locked down by a paranatural threat that began six years ago, puts players in a struggle for survival with limited resources and dangerous enemies. Remedy spokesperson Thomas Puha stated that this game is about a period when FBC lost control.
