Resistance 4 Project Hits PlayStation Block
Insomniac Games presented a project for the fourth game of the highly acclaimed Resistance series during the PlayStation 3 era. However, the company’s CEO Ted Price confirmed in a statement that the Resistance 4 idea was rejected by PlayStation. The reason given was “unsuitable timing and market opportunities.”
Is Hope Lost for Resistance 4?
Resistance stood out as one of the most beloved series of the PlayStation 3 era. The first game Resistance: Fall of Man, followed by Resistance 2 and Resistance 3, which completed the series, dragged players into a fight against the alien Chimera threat in an alternative history setting. According to Ted Price, Resistance 4 would be presented with a concept that would take the series even further, and this idea created great excitement within the Insomniac team.
Price stated that the series’ alternate history theme and elements such as the Chimera’s origins offered many opportunities to expand the story. However, PlayStation did not greenlight the project at the time. Nevertheless, Price stated that they noticed the intense interest from fans and that this universe had the potential to be used again one day.
PlayStation’s rejection of the project due to timing and market conditions may be related to the company’s strategic priorities at the time. Insomniac’s later focus on projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Wolverine led the studio to evolve in a different direction. Price stated that the experiences gained from the Resistance series played a major role in the success of these projects.
Although Ted Price will be leaving his position at Insomniac, he still holds out hope that the Resistance series may one day return. For now, PlayStation does not appear to have any plans to revive this iconic series. However, the love and demand from fans keeps the possibility of the series being reborn in the future alive. Perhaps one day we will have the chance to return to this epic fight against the Chimera threat.
