League Next Could Be a New Era for League of Legends
According to an exclusive report shared by Bloomberg, Riot Games plans to implement a massive update called “League Next” in 2027. Based on company sources, this claim suggests that this project will be the largest comprehensive overhaul of League of Legends in the last decade. It is stated that Riot views this project internally as a “reinterpretation” and will not be content with just minor tweaks.
According to reports, League Next will introduce a large-scale overhaul encompassing the game’s visuals, character models, map designs, and user interface. The goal isn’t just to provide a more modern look; it’s also to make League of Legends more understandable and accessible for first-time players. Riot’s recent moves are known to aim at making it easier for new players to adapt to the game.
The first signs of this approach were actually given earlier. Riot Games recently added WASD key movement support to League of Legends, deviating from the usual control scheme. This move was interpreted as a significant experiment for players who are hesitant about the classic MOBA experience and is seen as part of the League Next vision.

While League of Legends still has approximately 100 million monthly active players, it’s noted that this number has been slowly declining in recent years.
