Skyrim is now playable within Skyrim

Even after all these years, Skyrim continues to challenge players’ imaginations. The game, which has been the subject of ridicule for being ported to different platforms numerous times, has once again made headlines thanks to an unusual experiment by a player, resulting in an interesting experience where Skyrim can be replayed within itself.

How Was the Skyrim-Within-Skyrim Experience Created?

A short video shared on the Skyrim VR subreddit once again showcased the game’s flexibility and boundless capabilities. The user managed to sit around a campfire in the Skyrim VR world while simultaneously playing the classic Skyrim in a separate window. Thus, the player literally played Skyrim while playing Skyrim.

The shared footage shows the player interacting with objects in the VR environment, even playing with the famous cheese wheel. All this while the normal Skyrim gameplay continues in the background makes the experience both funny and surprising. Moreover, the possibility of enemy attacks is still present in the VR environment, meaning the player isn’t entirely safe.

This interesting experiment was inspired by other content creators who have previously performed various activities within Skyrim VR. The player stated that they were impressed by videos showing daily tasks being performed in Skyrim VR and wanted to test whether this was technically possible. The result was a surprisingly smooth experience.

The fact that Skyrim is now an aging game plays a significant role in the smooth operation of this dual-layered gameplay. The lack of serious performance issues could pave the way for such “game-within-a-game” experiments. Players are already talking about the next step: playing the Switch version of Skyrim inside Skyrim VR. Considering internet culture, this isn’t a far-fetched possibility.
