Sony Offers Great Convenience to PC Gamers
Sony has unexpected news for PC gamers. The company has quietly lifted regional sales restrictions for some of its popular games. Although there has been no official statement, changes to the Steam database clearly reveal this new move.
Sony Eases Region Restrictions on PC Games
The change, first noticed by Wario64, includes major titles such as God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, Spider-Man 2, and Helldivers 2. These games are now available for purchase in 177 countries where they were not previously available. This gives millions of gamers the opportunity to access these hits.
In the past, Sony had required a PSN account for some games, such as Helldivers 2. This requirement resulted in the game being removed from sale for countries without PSN access. However, following player backlash, Sony backed down and completely removed the PSN connection requirement from some games, including Helldivers 2. This decision was one of the first steps that paved the way for the removal of regional restrictions.
Recently, Stellar Blade’s PC release had also reignited the PSN debate. However, with the initiative of developer Shift Up, the PSN account requirement was made optional. Thanks to this, the game achieved great success by reaching almost 200 thousand concurrent players in its release week. Sony’s easing of region locks is seen as a continuation of this flexible approach, which has been tested with examples such as Stellar Blade.
Still, not everything is solved. Some games, such as Ghost of Tsushima and Until Dawn, still have serious region restrictions. However, recent developments show that Sony has started to follow a more flexible policy on the PC platform. Players are eagerly waiting for these positive steps to be reflected in other games.
