Subnautica 2 was Defeated by Pirates Before It’s Release
Subnautica 2, while preparing for its early access release, has been making headlines due to allegations of a pirated version. Unknown Worlds Entertainment’s underwater survival adventure appears to have been leaked online approximately two days before its official launch. With early leaks and cracked versions becoming increasingly common in the gaming industry lately, Subnautica 2 is one of the latest examples of this trend. The developers’ reaction on Discord was quite clear.
Subnautica 2 Leak Angers Developers
According to the information shared, Subnautica 2 has been circulating on pirated platforms before its official release at the $29.99 early access price. How the game became available in early access is currently unknown. However, a member of the development team directly reacted to those who obtained the game through piracy in a Discord statement, expressing their disappointment that a game they had been working on for years was being shared in this way.
The developer stated that a user who pirated the game revealed themselves, directly impacting their livelihood. This statement highlights that piracy is not just a technical issue, but a serious matter of labor and income, especially for independent or medium-sized studios. Early access sales are even more crucial for the team, as Subnautica 2 is planned to grow through this model.
Subnautica 2 isn’t the only game to experience similar problems recently. Games like Pragmata, the PC version of Death Stranding 2, Directive 8020, and Forza Horizon 6 have also reportedly fallen into pirated hands before release. Accidental downloads of unencrypted versions, in particular, can exacerbate these leaks.
Currently, no stricter penalties have been announced for Subnautica 2. However, the developers’ reaction shows that the studio is seriously upset about this situation. Although the early access phase has already begun, this pre-release leak casts a shadow over the process.
