Super Mario’s 40-Year-Old Secret World Revealed

One of the best-known secrets of the Super Mario series, Minus World, has long been remembered as one of the most legendary glitches in gaming history. This mysterious world, originally found in the 1985 original Super Mario Bros., has resurfaced almost forty years later in the series’ sequel. The discoverer was renowned speedrunner Kosmic.

Super Mario’s Lost World Finally Found

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, the original Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan, has been known for its various glitch worlds for years. However, this time, a special Minus World hidden in the All-Stars collection has been discovered. Kosmic, unable to progress through level B-7, tried several different levels, saved, and reloaded, only to discover the game’s layout had completely changed.

The player navigated a series of glitchy levels, eventually reaching a broken warp pipe located in B-9. A half-coin sign on the pipe returned them back to world 1-1. From there, Kosmic reached B-D and then various glitchy menu options. This process was far more complex and demanding than the game’s usual glitches.

According to Kosmic, the main reason this discovery remained hidden for so long was because players didn’t progress very far in the game. Because The Lost Levels were significantly more difficult than the original game, many players didn’t reach them. This is why the sequel, Minus World, wasn’t discovered until years later.

This discovery is significant not only for Mario fans but also for gaming history. This special world, hidden for nearly forty years, proves once again that there are still many secrets waiting to be discovered in the depths of video games. The video Kosmic shared reveals just how extraordinary and surprising this journey was.
