Switch 2 Overtakes PlayStation 5 and Xbox

Despite only being released weeks ago, the Switch 2 has attracted attention by breaking sales records in Japan. Despite many people’s comments that it “will not bring big enough innovations,” the console’s success seems to have exceeded Nintendo’s expectations. This fast start seems to intensify competition in the gaming world.

Switch 2 Draws Attention with Its Sales Figures

According to data shared by Nintendo Life, the Switch 2 has already sold more than 1 million units in Japan. The new console, which has reached a total of 1,101,136 units sold, quickly managed to leave the digital version of the PlayStation 5 behind. While the PS5 Digital Edition had 975,486 sales in Japan, the Switch 2 easily exceeded this number.

The situation is even more remarkable on the Xbox front. Xbox Series X sold 320,762 units, Series S sold 337,811 units, and Xbox Digital Edition sold 20,854 units, totaling 679,427 units. This means that the Switch 2 has almost doubled Xbox hardware sales in Japan in just a few weeks. This difference proves Nintendo’s strong position in the market once again.

Strong first-party games have had a major impact on the success of the Switch 2. Games like Mario Kart World and the newly announced Donkey Kong Bananza are increasing the popularity of the console. In addition, highly anticipated games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are on the way. This shows that the Switch 2 can maintain its momentum for a long time.

The previous model, the Switch 1, sold over 20 million units in Japan. Whether the Switch 2 will break this record is a matter of curiosity. However, the current sales pace suggests that Nintendo’s next-gen console will continue to outpace its rivals, and the coming months will determine how competition in the gaming world will unfold.
