The Batman universe, which has been quiet for a long time, is finally being revived. The studio has begun taking concrete steps towards a new film starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. The highly anticipated sequel is officially entering production.

The Batman 2 Begins Filming in Spring 2026

Warner Bros. Discovery’s latest letter to investors announced the release of a filming date for The Batman Part II. Matt Reeves will return as director, and the film will begin filming in spring 2026. The sequel will hit theaters in fall 2027. This announcement marks the first concrete development for the long-awaited project following the release of the first film in 2022.

The Batman 2 Filming Date Announced

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne during his busy schedule. The actor, who worked on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three throughout 2025, is preparing to return to Gotham in 2026. Warner Bros. also confirmed that the script for the sequel has been completed by Matt Reeves.

The Batman 2 occupies a unique position within the DC universe’s restructuring. DC Studios, led by James Gunn, is positioning this film independently of the main universe. While Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, and new Wonder Woman projects are also progressing, The Batman franchise will continue on its own path.

The first film was a resounding success, grossing $772 million worldwide. Despite criticism of the sequel’s delay, James Gunn defended the delay, stating that the process was meticulously managed. He emphasized that no production would begin until the script was completed and urged audiences to be patient. Matt Reeves, on the other hand, has reiterated in every statement that he is determined to “make the best movie” during this period.
