The Big Bug in the New DualSense Edge Controller

Sony released its special PS5 consoles and accessories last week in honor of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. The DualSense Edge controller included in this special edition series, however, drew the ire of fans due to a design flaw. The 30th anniversary version features analog sticks in a different color than the standard DualSense Edge, with non-replaceable parts in case of future problems.

DualSense Edge’s Gray Analog Sticks Cannot be Replaced

As Redditors pointed out, the analog sticks on the 30th anniversary DualSense Edge controller are a different color than the standard model. While this makes sense from an appearance standpoint, it’s a big problem if wear or drifting issues arise over time. Because even though the DualSense Edge has easily replaceable analog sticks, Sony’s website only sells replacement analog sticks in black.

So, if the gray analog sticks of the 30th anniversary DualSense Edge controller somehow get damaged, the black replacements will ruin the controller’s special design. This has disappointed gamers who bought the DualSense Edge because of its unique look, seeing it as a safeguard against drifting issues.

Some users suggest not installing the gray analog sticks at all and using them less to prevent them from wearing out. However, this solution diminishes the comfort DualSense Edge provides and the excitement of the exclusive design.

As disappointing as it is, the limited production run of the 30th anniversary DualSense Edge controller means that a much smaller audience will experience this problem. Still, it’s clear that Sony should have designed the special edition controllers with the colors of the interchangeable parts in mind.
