The Expanse Argues that Osiris Reborn is Man-Made

The Expanse Osiris Reborn, after its Xbox Partner Preview, has become a topic of discussion not only for its gameplay but also for its behind-the-scenes development process. In particular, statements suggesting the use of AI in certain aspects of the game quickly sparked debate among players. Given the current sensitive nature of this issue, Owlcat Games’ approach has become a subject of curiosity.

The Expanse Osiris Reborn and the AI Controversy

The development team explicitly states that AI was only used in technical processes for The Expanse Osiris Reborn. This means that the characters, voice acting, or story content we see in the game’s finale will not be directly generated by AI. AI is primarily used to accelerate development processes such as prototyping, testing, and rapid iteration.

The examples given actually support this. For instance, AI tools come into play in technical tests, such as testing how an image looks in a 3D environment or quickly seeing color harmonies. But all of this content is recreated by human hands in the final version. The studio is particularly clear on this point: the final version of the game will be entirely human-made.

Of course, this explanation isn’t enough for everyone. Some players think that even the inclusion of AI in the process, even if only “temporarily,” is debatable. The view that even ideas created in the early stages can affect the final design is quite common. This creates the gray area.

Nevertheless, it must be said: The Expanse Osiris Reborn is a project that aims to stand out with its story-driven structure and character depth. Developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, the game will also be available on Game Pass and will be released in spring 2027. If the team can maintain the human touch as promised, this debate may eventually give way to the game itself.
