The Fate of Konami Remakes Lies in Metal Gear’s Hands

Following the successful launch of the Silent Hill 2 remake, all eyes are now on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. While Konami appears eager to reintroduce its classic series to players, it appears that any further action will depend entirely on the performance of this project.

If Metal Gear Solid Delta Succeeds, New Remakes May Arrive

Konami views Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater not just as a remake, but as a crucial test for future projects. The company will be closely monitoring how this remake, due out in 2025, is received by both players and critics. If the project lives up to expectations and achieves commercial success, the likelihood of remakes of other classics will significantly increase.

In an interview, producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado explained that their current focus is on Delta. “Our priority is to deliver this game to both long-time fans and new players in the best way possible,” they said. “If players want to see more after Delta, we may consider other games in the future,” emphasizing that the process will depend entirely on community response.

However, industry analysts believe the decision will be based not only on player demand but also on financial results. The Silent Hill 2 remake exceeded expectations by earning a Metacritic score in the high 80s in 2024. It’s predicted that if Metal Gear Solid Delta achieves a similarly successful launch, Konami will be encouraged to pursue more remakes.

Konami has a significant advantage. If the Snake Eater remake achieves strong sales, modern versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 or other classic games could be on the agenda. However, if the expected success isn’t achieved, the studio is likely to put the brakes on its remake strategy. This 2025 release will be one of the most critical turning points in Konami’s future.
