The First Trailer for Gremlins 3 is Here, and Gizmo is Back
Warner Bros. has released the first teaser for Gremlins 3, showcasing the return of Gizmo, a beloved character from the series. However, the announcement also revealed a significant change to the film’s release schedule. Previously scheduled for November 19, 2027, the film has been delayed by almost a year to October 6, 2028. This means the wait for the third film in the series will be much longer than anticipated.
Gremlins 3 Brings Gizmo Back Close to His Original Design
The teaser doesn’t show Gizmo much, but the character’s design appears to be a notable change. The initial images suggest a design closer to Chris Walas’s original Gizmo look, rather than the more commercially oriented later design.
The creative team behind the film is also quite familiar. Steven Spielberg is once again executive producing, while Chris Columbus, the screenwriter of the first Gremlins film, will direct. The screenplay is being written by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who previously worked with Columbus on Final Destination: Bloodlines.
It hasn’t been announced yet which original cast members will return. Therefore, there’s a possibility the third film will focus entirely on new characters. However, Gizmo’s return already suggests a strong connection to the series’ past.
The first Gremlins film, released in 1984 with a budget of only $11 million, grossed $151 million in the US. Gremlins 2: The New Batch, released in 1990, achieved cult status but didn’t achieve the same box office success. Gremlins 3 will be released on October 6, 2028, bringing the series back to theaters after approximately 38 years.
