The Last of Us Season 2 Surpasses Emmy Awards

The Last of Us season two, which premiered in April, received significant Emmy nominations but fell short of expectations. The series, which achieved significant success with its first season, experienced a significant drop in viewership this time around and failed to maintain its previous impact during the awards season. Despite this, lead actors like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey received notable nominations in individual categories.

The Last of Us Scores 16 Emmy Nominations

HBO’s beloved series, The Last of Us, garnered 16 Emmy nominations this year, eight fewer than its first season. While nominations in prestigious categories like Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Pedro Pascal), and Best Actress (Bella Ramsey) were prominent, they fell short of last season’s strong showing.

The series’ viewership figures also declined this season. The season finale saw 55% fewer viewers than season one. This decline was reflected in its Emmy performance. Apple TV+’s Severance topped the list with 27 nominations, while HBO’s other projects, The Penguin and The White Lotus, also had a strong presence with 23 each.

The Last of Us season two also received Emmy nominations for guest actors. Joe Pantoliano (Eugene), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac Dixon), Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), and Catherine O’Hara (Gail), were the standouts in the acting categories. The series also received nominations for technical categories such as production design, sound mixing, music supervision, and visual effects.

Another development on the series front is Neil Druckmann’s departure from HBO, and the fact that the next season will focus on Abby’s character’s perspective. In light of all these changes, it remains to be seen what direction the third season will take.
