Guns N’ Roses Song Explodes After Film Release
Following the film’s premiere in Japan on January 30th, the download and streaming numbers for the Guns N’ Roses song increased dramatically. According to iTunes Store data, downloads of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” saw an increase of over 12,000 percent, and the song quickly climbed to the top of the charts. The return of a 38-year-old song on this scale once again demonstrated the power of film-music interaction.
A similar scenario unfolded on Spotify, with a more than 400% increase in song listens. Moreover, the film’s producers managed to keep the closing theme a secret until the release. This surprise choice amplified the impact further through social media posts by moviegoers leaving the theater.
The new Gundam film is positioned as the second installment in a trilogy based on Hathaway’s Flash novels. The first film was released in 2021, and the sequel, coming after a long hiatus, had already raised expectations. However, nobody expected an iconic rock band like Guns N’ Roses to be used as the closing theme.
The Western release date has not yet been announced, but initial reactions in Japan indicate a strong start for the film. It seems the new Gundam film is making its mark not only in the anime world but also on music charts.
