The Odyssey Trailer Leaked
The first trailer for The Odyssey was planned to be released only in movie theaters. However, while the sustainability of such a plan in the digital age is questioned, the expected happened: the trailer was leaked to the internet with a phone camera. The trailer draws viewers to the center of Greek mythology, while the striking dialogues of the characters also attract attention.
The Odyssey Trailer Meets Viewers Early
The trailer begins with a seascape and then we meet Tom Holland’s Telemachus character, who is tracking Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. His conversation with the character, played by Jon Bernthal, clearly reveals the theme of the quest at the center of the film. While conflicting rumors are circulated about Odysseus’ fate, Bernthal’s character shouts to the crowd, “Does anyone have a story about Odysseus?”
The images show horsemen running onto the beach, a large black horse, and a man being dragged among the ruins. It is understood that this person is Odysseus. In the final frame, Matt Damon’s character is shown unconsciously clinging to a piece of debris in the sea. The trailer ends with the words “THE ODYSSEY,” giving a hint that it will be Nolan’s most unusual film to date.
The Odyssey is based on Homer’s classic epic. The film tells the story of Odysseus’ journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The story also features mythological figures such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the sorceress goddess Circe. The cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, and Mia Goth.
Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, will be in theaters on July 17, 2026 and will stand out as the first Greek epic adaptation shot with IMAX technology.
