The Witcher 4 Got New Update
A new leak revealed that The Witcher 4 might be closer to release than we think.
New Update for The Witcher 4
While Project Polaris is being called The Witcher 4 in promotional materials, CDPR hasn’t confirmed if this new trilogy will continue the story of Geralt of Rivia or shift toward a new protagonist, though it has been suggested that the famed monster hunter could still appear in some capacity even if the player isn’t controlling him anymore. Some fans have speculated that the new Witcher trilogy could instead follow Ciri, Geralt’s protege who may or may not have survived the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt depending on the player’s choices throughout the game.
More answers will likely come as The Witcher 4 gets closer to release, and a new leak may provide a clue as to when that could be. A placeholder page for The Witcher 4 recently appeared on GOG.com, as shared by Reddit user MrFrostPvP- on r/witcher. This page even includes a placeholder release date of December 31, 2025. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that The Witcher 4 will launch in 2025, it isn’t unusual for upcoming games that don’t have an official release date to simply put in the last day of the year they are generally slated to launch on online retailers as a placeholder.
Other Reddit users are already speculating about what this placeholder date could mean for the release of The Witcher 4, with some guessing that it will launch either in 2026 or 2027. Some are anxious to play the next installment in the beloved Witcher series, while others would rather CDPR take its time to avoid a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077’s infamous 2020 launch that nearly ruined that particular game’s reputation with numerous game-breaking bugs and glitches.
Some members of the community still point out that CDPR hasn’t shown anything about The Witcher 4 since its initial announcement in 2022, spawning another conversation about when players could see a trailer. This could come at the upcoming Game Awards 2024 event on December 12, but some remain skeptical that CDPR will be ready to reveal too much yet. In any case, it will likely still be a while before The Witcher 4 kicks off a new chapter in the now-legendary book, video game, and television franchise.
