Ubisoft Employees are Demanding the Resignation of CEO Yves Guillemot

The turmoil at Ubisoft continues. Canceled projects in recent years, falling share values, and a company-wide restructuring process have increased employee dissatisfaction. Now, union representatives have openly called for CEO Yves Guillemot’s resignation.

Management Debates Deepen at Ubisoft

French union representatives Marc Rutschlé and Chakib Mataoui stated in an interview that the root of Ubisoft’s problems lies with its top management. Rutschlé argued that Guillemot surrounded himself with “yes-men” over the years, and that this led to serious problems, particularly during the harassment scandal that erupted in 2020. Employees say this period has significantly damaged trust within the company.

Mataoui harshly criticized Guillemot’s appointment of his son, Charlie, as co-CEO of Vantage Studios. According to him, this structure within the top management represents an approach that is both uninclusive and stifles new ideas. Mataoui stated that in a creative industry, this approach cannot move the company forward; on the contrary, it weakens Ubisoft’s vision for game development.

Union representatives emphasize that one of the biggest problems in the company is “trust.” They report a significant loss of faith among employees that the current management can pull Ubisoft out of its current crisis. This is directly linked to the company’s handling of past harassment allegations, creating a perception of a “work environment where abusers can be protected.”

According to Rutschlé, Guillemot’s resignation could be the first step in rebuilding trust within the company. Indeed, Ubisoft employees previously held a strike vote against planned layoffs. As French-based unions prepare for an internationally supported strike between February 10-12, pressure on Ubisoft management is increasing daily.
