Ubisoft’s “Waves of Change” Event
Ubisoft has unveiled “Waves of Change,” a charitable initiative within their game Skull and Bones aimed at supporting ocean conservation efforts. From March 18 to March 31, 2024, the company pledges to make donations to Oceana whenever players defeat in-game enemies, targeting a donation goal of €300,000. This effort aligns with the release of Skull and Bones, a co-op pirate action RPG that offers an immersive piratical experience across the Indian Ocean.
Ubisoft’s “Waves of Change” Event Partners with Oceana for Ocean Conservation
This partnership with Oceana, the leading organization in ocean conservation, seeks to harness the power of gaming communities to affect real-world environmental change. By engaging in battles against in-game foes such as Skirmishers, Headhunters, and Pirate Lord Philippe La Peste, players contribute directly to Ubisoft’s donation efforts. Progress towards the donation goal will be tracked on a dedicated webpage, and players can earn the Pioneer set as an in-game reward for their participation.
Neven Dravinski, the Senior Producer of Skull and Bones at Ubisoft Singapore, emphasizes the company’s commitment to leveraging gaming for environmental awareness and action. Ubisoft’s collaboration with Oceana is highlighted as a crucial step in mobilizing the gaming community towards preserving the oceans, a cause deeply rooted in the development team’s values. Jon Frank from Oceana underscores the resilience of oceans despite threats like climate change and overfishing, expressing hope that “Waves of Change” will inspire broader support for oceanic recovery.
Ubisoft’s environmental commitment extends beyond this event. As a member of the Playing for the Planet Alliance, facilitated by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Ubisoft aims to reduce its carbon footprint and advocate for global carbon neutrality. The company has set science-based targets for emission reduction in line with the Paris Agreement, aiming for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and promoting science-based targets among its suppliers.
Developed by Ubisoft Singapore, Skull and Bones allows players to live out their pirate fantasies in an open world setting, emphasizing freedom and strategy in becoming the most notorious pirate in the high seas. The game is available across multiple platforms, including PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X | S, Amazon Luna, GeForce Now, and PC, supporting cross-play and cross-progression.
