Will the Russo Brothers Continue in the MCU After Secret Wars?

The Russo brothers left the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame, but returned years later for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. While it was wondered whether the duo would remain within the MCU after these films, Anthony Russo said they weren’t entirely closed to new projects. However, the directors’ current plan is primarily focused on completing the story of the two interconnected Avengers films.

Russo Brothers May Remain in the MCU After Secret Wars

Anthony Russo stated that when they completed Endgame, they thought their long story journey with Marvel had come to an end. He said that the narrative that began with The Winter Soldier was completed through Infinity War and Endgame, and that at that time they viewed the project as a definitive finale. Despite this, the Russo brothers returned to the MCU years later to direct the series’ new large-scale story.

According to a new announcement, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars are being designed as two films directly connected to each other. The Russo brothers say these productions will complete a single grand narrative and that their current creative plans do not extend beyond Secret Wars. This approach suggests a re-use of a structure similar to the two-part storyline established between Infinity War and Endgame.

Anthony Russo stated that they could work with Marvel Studios again after Secret Wars, but that this is not yet decided. While the director’s words indicate that the door is not completely closed, there is currently no official agreement for a new MCU film. It seems that the Russo brothers’ future will largely depend on the completion of their current Avengers projects.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Among the claims surrounding the film is that the story will end with great ambiguity, directly setting the stage for Secret Wars. However, these details have not been officially confirmed. For now, new Russo brothers films after Secret Wars remain only a possibility.
