Witcher 4 Aims for 60 FPS on Consoles, But…

CD Projekt Red says it learned from performance issues while developing Witcher 4. Not wanting to repeat the problems experienced during the Cyberpunk 2077 era, the team has set the priority to run the game at 60 FPS on consoles this time. However, things may not be so easy for the Xbox Series S.

Xbox Series S Barrier for Witcher 4

In an interview with Digital Foundry, the studio stated that Witcher 4 is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and that high frame rates will be prioritized on consoles. However, it was clearly stated that reaching the 60 FPS target for the Xbox Series S will be “extremely difficult.” Officials emphasized that they are working to find a solution for this issue, but there is no definitive guarantee.

In the past, the poor performance of Cyberpunk 2077 has led to serious criticism of CD Projekt Red. The studio is already taking precautions to prevent a similar situation in the new Witcher game. This time, a “console first” approach is being adopted in the development process and a consistent experience is planned to be offered on every platform.

Although the Unreal Engine 5 technological demo released in June gave clues about Witcher 4, the studio announced that these images were not directly from the game. The demo was prepared only to showcase the capabilities of the new engine. Nevertheless, expectations for the new game are already quite high.

The Witcher 4’s release date is not yet clear. Gamers seem to have to wait a few more years to get new information. However, the importance CD Projekt Red has given to performance this time gives hope that the new adventure will be more trouble-free.
