Xbox Handheld Dream Stuck on 10 Million Requirement

Rumors of an Xbox handheld console have caused a stir in the tech world. It’s alleged that Microsoft canceled the project after refusing to accept AMD’s 10 million-unit production requirement. However, some sources claim these rumors are untrue. The Xbox handheld console dream appears to be on hold for now.

Are the Xbox Handheld Console Rumors True?

AMD and KeplerL2, known for their hardware leaks, have claimed that the Xbox handheld console project was halted early in development. Allegedly, AMD requested a 10 million-unit guarantee from Microsoft for a custom System-on-a-Chip production. Microsoft, unwilling to take that risk, decided to cancel the project.

Xbox Handheld Dream Stuck on 10 Million Requirement

The Steam Deck’s sales of approximately 5 million units, while models like the ASUS ROG and Lenovo Legion remain around 1-2 million, may have led Microsoft to exercise caution. The shrinking hardware market is also considered a significant factor affecting the company’s risk assessments.

However, editor Jez Corden stated that this claim is “completely untrue.” Corden stated that Xbox continues to invest in hardware and that new console projects are still active. This statement raises questions about the credibility of the Xbox console rumors.

Microsoft’s statements also stated that the company is “actively investing in future first-party consoles and devices.” This has been interpreted as an indication that Xbox’s handheld console plans have not been completely shelved. Therefore, even if the 10 million claim is true, the story is far from over.

Tech enthusiasts are eager to see if the Xbox handheld console project will resurface in the future. If the company shifts its strategy to a more secure production plan, a portable Xbox experience may return in the future.
