Analysts Believe the PlayStation 6 Price will be Excessively High
The PlayStation 6 price has become one of the most anticipated topics regarding next-generation consoles. While the current generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X were expected to decrease in price over time, their price increases have caused concern among gamers regarding the next generation. Problems with component supply, the hardware demands of AI data centers, and uncertainties in production costs suggest that the PlayStation 6 could exceed the usual console prices.
PlayStation 6 Price Could Approach $1000
Some industry analysts, speaking about the PlayStation 6 price, believe the new console could approach or even surpass the $1000 mark. Analyst Joost van Dreunen states that the base price for Sony’s next-generation console could exceed $1000. Similarly, Mat Piscatella from Circana says that such a price no longer seems impossible.
These predictions are based on the sharp changes in the hardware market. Normally, as consoles age, production costs decrease and prices become more accessible over time. However, the opposite has happened with the current generation. Despite their years on the market, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have seen price increases instead of decreases. This situation sets the stage for a new generation device like the PlayStation 6 to start at a higher price.
Some analysts believe that Sony, thanks to its experience in electronics, can manage the supply crisis better than companies like Valve. However, it’s also noted that even a price below $999 might be more psychological and marketing-driven. Because with the $899.99 PS5 Pro on the market, it doesn’t seem easy for a brand-new generation console to be only slightly more expensive.
If the demand for memory and hardware from AI data centers decreases, the price pressure might ease. However, if demand continues to rise, the PlayStation 6 price could be truly challenging for gamers. Sony could try to balance the price by selling the console at a loss and using game revenue, but even this might not completely change the fact that the new generation will be expensive.
