Anthem Returns Thanks to Fan Effort
An unexpected development occurred after the official path for Anthem was closed. The game, rendered unplayable due to its online-focused nature, was revived thanks to a community initiative. Following similar fates of other titles, this time it was the players who stepped in to prevent it from becoming “lost media.”
Fan-Made Server Brings Anthem Back to Life
After the game was shut down, volunteer developers and archivists quickly sprang into action. During this process, a content creator known as And799 on YouTube shared a video demonstrating that he managed to run the game on a private server. The footage shows multiple players circulating in the same session, which is remarkable given the speed of the progress.
With Kotaku first bringing the project to light, hopes rose that Anthem wouldn’t be completely forgotten. Of course, some features, like online profile viewing, are missing or malfunctioning in this version; however, the fact that the core gameplay is back online suggests that the most difficult stage of the process has been overcome.
On the other hand, the team specifically emphasizes that the shared work is an “experiment.” Its current state doesn’t represent a final private server solution, and there’s no promise of public gameplay yet. Nevertheless, such early progress sends a strong signal regarding the project’s future.
Remembering the fan backlash against The Crew, it’s possible Anthem could share a similar fate. Even though official support from EA and BioWare has ended, the fans’ determination could save Anthem from being completely consigned to history.
