Baywatch Returns to Screens
Baywatch, one of the most iconic productions in television history, is making a comeback after many years. Initial plans for Fox’s new reboot series are starting to become clear. Contrary to expectations, the series won’t be ready for the fall season; instead, it will air towards the end of January 2027. Given the immense worldwide popularity of the original series, this new version carries a considerable burden. Nevertheless, Fox seems quite determined to revive the Baywatch brand.
Baywatch Returns with a New Cast
Fox network president Michael Thorn said that bringing back Baywatch is a great honor for them. Thorn, reminding everyone that the original series was one of the most popular productions in television history, acknowledged that the new version has to “fill the big shoes.” And he’s not wrong; Baywatch was once broadcast in over 200 countries and reached over a billion viewers weekly.
The new story will focus on Hobie Buchannon, played by Stephen Amell. Hobie will be a Baywatch captain following in his father Mitch’s footsteps. However, the unexpected arrival of his daughter, Charlie Vale, will completely change his life. This family bond suggests the series will not only be a beach action show but also a character-driven drama.
In addition to Stephen Amell, the cast includes Noah Beck, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Livvy Dunne, Hassie Harrison, and Brooks Nader. The return of Erika Eleniak and David Chokachi from the original series will be a nice touch of nostalgia for old fans. Fox’s decision to bring together television stars and social media influencers in the new cast will likely generate a lot of discussion.
Matt Nix, known for Burn Notice, is the showrunner for Baywatch. The series is a co-production between Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Fox believes launching the series mid-season is a better strategy and aims to prepare it for a stronger debut.
