Bethesda Breaks Silence on Fallout 76 Crossplay
Fallout 76 has been a topic of constant debate within the community since its release. While the game has received significant updates over the years, one of the most frequently asked questions has been whether crossplay support will be available. Bethesda broke its silence on the matter at a special event in New York. These statements, rather than satisfying the Fallout 76 community’s curiosity, have sparked new discussions.
Crossplay Still Seems Difficult for Fallout 76
Bethesda’s creative director Jonathan Rush and production director Bill LaCoste addressed the issue of crossplay at the Fallout 76 press conference. LaCoste stated that this feature poses a significant technical burden. He emphasized that the game’s infrastructure would require a complete redesign, emphasizing that such a change would be impossible in the short term.
LaCoste stated that he, like the rest of the cast, wants to continue playing the same character across platforms. However, he stated that under current circumstances, this could jeopardize the overall structure of the game. He emphasized that since the team is constantly developing new content for Fallout 76, devoting resources to such a change would be unwise from a returns perspective.
The crossplay feature, which Fallout 76 players have been requesting for years, continues to generate significant anticipation within the community. Bethesda, however, prioritizes content creation and expanding the game world. The new expansion, Burning Springs, is the most recent example of this priority. This additional content, which includes new zones and quests, aims to draw players’ attention in a different direction.
The statements indicate that crossplay has not been completely ruled out for Fallout 76. However, under current circumstances, the possibility of adding this feature to the game seems highly unlikely. Bethesda has stated that it may revisit crossplay if conditions change in the future. For now, players will have to limit their Fallout 76 experience to existing platforms.
