Black Ops 7 Sales Are Very Bad
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, following a lackluster reception from critics and players, also failed to meet expectations in sales. The new installment in the series fell short of its competitors in many regions, particularly in Europe and Japan.
Black Ops 7 Fails to Meet Expectations in Its Opening Week
According to GSD, which tracks sales data in Europe, Black Ops 7’s opening week was described as “disappointing.” The game saw 63 percent lower sales than Battlefield 6, and a more than 50 percent drop compared to last year’s Black Ops 6. Despite this, Black Ops 7 managed to become the best-selling game in Europe during its opening week.
The situation was even worse in Japan. While it’s well known that the Call of Duty series isn’t strong in this market, Black Ops 7 had the weakest launch in the series’ history. This suggests the game failed to make the expected impact globally.
Sales data may not fully reflect the game’s performance. Since Black Ops 7 is included with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, many players have direct access to the game. However, Activision’s refusal to share the sales and player count data, which it usually boasts, is noteworthy.
The game’s alleged AI-generated in-game assets and the story mode, which requires a constant online presence, are among its criticisms. Furthermore, competition is much fiercer this year. Battlefield 6 is rapidly rising on the charts, while newer titles like Arc Raiders are surpassing Black Ops 7 in Steam player numbers. It remains to be seen whether the first season, which begins in December, will boost the game’s momentum.
